Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was able to complete one reading section and one math section. We went over the questions she had in the math section and discussed the solution but more importantly the best place to start for the question. We discussed how plugging in a number can always work in your favor for an algebra problem. We also reviewed some geometric principles. We then moved onto a writing section. She did a nice job of identifying the concepts that re-occur such as subject-verb agreement, articles, verb tense, etc. I think she will do well in this section if she continues to familiarize herself with these types of problems."
"The student was able to take a practice assessment math test and has improved! We decided to move on with our prep to the assessment reading section. We began by working out of the prep book. After she read a passage we went to the appropriate questions and talked about them. We also talked about what type of questions will be covered in the assessment reading section. After she completed all the book questions, we went to a website to find more passages/questions. We used the practice tests on the website (a passage with 12 relevant questions). We went over the passage and questions using the same method she usually does (skim/read the passage first, then read and answer the questions). For the next test I asked her to try and read the question first and then try to find the answer without reading the entire passage. For the rest of the tests she worked on, she used her original method. She and I will meet again on Thursday for more on the assessment reading section. I look forward to our next session."
"Went over: algebra, geometry, and trigonometry- mastered systems of equations using elimination and calculated triangle sides using trig functions, and reviewed graphing trig functions."
