Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent most of the time working on subjunctive and indicative moods as well as reviewing our previous work with pronouns. Both topics are advanced language structures, and she quickly catches on to abstract language concepts. In the second half of the session, we began to combine time with mood to select verb tense, and we also talked about the perfect tenses (in particular, present perfect (antepresente)-- subjunctive/indicative, pluperfect, and conditional perfect. The work that the student did for homework was thoughtfully completed and provided good discussion material. I did leave her additional practice in a workbook."
"The student and I started, and we focused on reading. She picked out some easier picture books from the library so that we could focus less on complex vocabulary and structures and more on overall reading skills. First, we took practiced predicting. She needed some guidance in this. She began by predicting every day activities, but the book was about summer. With some guidance, she did some nice predicting about summer activities. We read through one of the books and walked through using context clues for new words. With most words, she was very good, since the context clues were simple and obvious (which is what I was hoping using the easier readers). At the end, we wrote a 2-sentence summary of the main idea. This took a lot of work and guidance."
"Past imperfect tense. Past progressive tense. Grades are progressing. We worked on story telling and when to use the previously mentioned tenses."
