"The student and I worked on her study guide about the first 2 units of the chapter on factorization. Most of the problems are geared to have the student practice the perfect square of a binomial. She absolutely mastered the art of discerning patterns and recognizing those trinomials that are squares of binomials and flawlessly writes down the results. I didn't correct her even once besides giving her a hint here and there. After we're done with her assigned problems, we moved to look ahead into the upcoming material and she learned a new rule of a multiplication."
"The student and I concentrated heavily on proofs this time, as requested in the previous section. She said she had taken a test that day, and that she felt she did well, which is great news. In preparation for future retests, we reviewed the difference between congruent and similar triangles and different theorems to prove. Then she learned the process of solving for missing lengths of similar triangles by identifying the ratio between them. She solved example problems of proportional triangles using crossmultiplication. Then we reviewed angle postulates, properties, and theorems and she performed proofs to solve angle problems with parallel lines, and she understood those concepts very well. One thing to continue to review is how to solve algebraic equations, since those problems frequently appear in geometry problems as well."
"We practiced double and triple digit multiplication, which was the student's homework. He has mastered double digit multiplication and was able to correctly complete problems on his own. Then we practiced algebra via word problems. The concept of algebra finally clicked for him and he was able to correctly translate word problems into algebraic equations and solve for an unknown."
"In this last session, the student wanted to go over his final project with a focus on how to write up the hypotheses and statistical aspects of the paper. We were able to cover all the sections of the paper he was concerned about getting help with. The student said he felt able to complete the paper after we finished the session."
"Today, the student and I worked on a packet that her teacher gave to her to study for a test she has on Tuesday. We went over multiplying and dividing fractions, estimating the product of fractions, and conversions, like pounds into ounces and pounds into tons and feet into miles. Her confidence seemed higher than last week. She seemed to understand the multiplying and dividing of fractions really well."
"The student and I began the session by looking at her previous quiz on her math review sheet. We then continued working on her review sheet by solving a few of the comparing numbers problems. She breezed right through those so we went back on concentrating on representing numbers with 1's, 10's and 100's blocks. She made HUGE growth from the last session and you could see how confident she felt when we switched from the manipulatives to drawing them."

"We covered algebraic functions and graphing linear equations. I looked at the student's test scores from last school year and a quiz covering functions. He scored among the average scores on the math sections of the test. He scored 100% on numeracy and 70% on functions on his function quiz. He practiced functions today. He must make sure he does all of the steps required by the equation of the function. He graphed the function well. He was instructed to complete the graphs of the eight equations and tables completed during the session. The session went well."
"We had a session covering a very peculiar rational equation project that the student was given by her teacher. It had no vertical asymptotes, no horizontal asymptotes, and no xintercepts, making it a very strange and difficult to graph problem. But we went through everything and got as thorough as we could, and also covered the procedures for more "normal" rational functions. We also reviewed some material for an upcoming quiz: zeroes, complex zeroes, multiplicities, linear factorizations, and solving for rational variables. She worked very hard and took notes, as well as taking the notes I wrote, to study tomorrow. We agreed that she should email me if anything else comes up in her studying."
