Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Met with student for the first session today. Turns out the teacher assigns homework daily from each section within the chapter. Therefore in the interest of time we went into solving problems and addressed foundational gaps along the way. He has a general gist of the material, but sometimes struggles in putting the pieces together. Doing well in the class requires completion of homework as he mentioned the teacher simply changes the numbers and reuses homework problems for the test. However, relying on a repetitive plug-and-chug strategy will only go so far on the tests/ final. To excel I urged the student to attempt the homework without having the answers right there next to the problems."
"Topics covered included review for the student's test over potential and kinetic energy, momentum, and tying concepts together with velocity, acceleration, force, energy, and work."
"Today was my first meeting with this student. We spent the first half hour taking a thorough assessment of her educational context. I learned about the teacher's learning style, expectations, and grading system. After discussing her academic performance, we calculated the probability of her final grade. I assessed her understanding of the core concepts in chemistry and her ability to solve problems in chemistry. I determined that the best approach is to start at the fresh chapter on Electrochemistry and reserve a few minutes each meeting in order to review unfinished assignments."
