Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we spent our time preparing for the student's test on Wednesday. We covered a variety of topic in magnetism, including determining magnetic fields, inductance, circuits, and EM waves. On Tuesday, we are going to go over practice exams to further prepare for the test."
"The student has a test this week so we went over the topics in the review sheet her teacher handed out, ensuring she understood each concept. She could answer nearly all questions that I asked her. We went over electron configuration, orbitals, trends in the periodic table, electronegativity, polarity, ionic bonds, ionic compounds and properties of metals. She also asked me some very good questions, which I love. She is quite the thinker. We went over a homework sheet of questions as well. We finished all of the topics on the exam and we were going over ionic bonds and it lead to me teaching her a new topic, dissociation reactions, dissolving a solid compound into water; how to write the equations, how to identify the polyatomic ions in the compounds, even taught her how to start naming compounds, balancing the equations. She picked it up very quickly and really seemed to be enjoying learning something ahead of the class. Our session went very well and I'm sure she will do great on her exam."
"We covered conservation of momentum and energy in elastic collisions, center of mass, and impulse and momentum in systems of reducing mass."
"Our first session. We reviewed energy conservation in regards to springs for the student's exam on Thursday."
"Initially, we worked on sequences-- arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric. We focused on geometric while doing a general review of the rest of the chapter. We finished with physics, and the student was very good with this material."
"Today we worked with finding molar masses of compounds and elements. In review for an upcoming test, we then used this information to solve percent composition problems and to find empirical/ molecular formulas. The student did well with each of the new topics, and while reviewing for the test he had a little trouble naming compounds when given a chemical formula. We covered them more until he understood well."
