Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was working with momentum and impulse, and we dealt with several review problems covering various aspects of conservation of momentum and the relationship of impulse to force and time of application. She seemed to be coming around on these concepts more as the session ended, and we will pick up with that tomorrow."
"The student and I covered material from a newly presented chapter. We covered covalent molecule properties, polar, and nonpolar. We then applied that in comparison to ionic molecules, keeping our knowledge of electronegativity in hand. Finally, we went through the process of Lewis structures. We covered a lot of material; however, through practice, he ended the session confident and capable."
"In our first session, the student and I started by going through his past tests and class notes to get a feel for what material his teacher includes on exams. We then worked through his notes to review what he has learned so far this week. We talked about some of the bigger ideas such as mitosis and meiosis while he made some notes about the details. We talked about the different stages of these processes, their purpose and end results. We also went through all of his notes to create a list of terms he needs to know for his next test. He will add them into a quiz app he has to review them before our next meeting."
"The student and I started this session by reviewing the end of his homework together. Following this I gave him a practice test that should be similar to the exam he has this Thursday. I was going to have him work through it himself and then go over it with him, but for time's sake we ended up working through the test together. I told him it would be a good idea to work through the last two problems before his test, but did not require him to. He struggled on a few concept questions so we discussed them and he showed a full understanding afterwards. Overall, the session was very productive and I plan to use more practice tests to help see where he is at in the future."
"Today astronomy was covered. We reviewed the student's homework questions and definitions. She seemed to have a good grasp of the subject matter. She was left with additional vocabulary words to look up definitions for."
"The student and I met to go over information regarding her organic chemistry chapter. We went over the concepts of nomenclature and hydrocarbon derivatives such as alcohols, carboxylic acids, ketones, and esters. She said she felt much more comfortable with the information after our session. We did all of her review problems at the end of the chapter. She said she had a quiz over the information before our session and is hoping she did well on it."
