Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we reviewed all vocabulary that we have previously covered. We also learned new vocabulary about clothing."
"Introduced and practiced the preterite and present progressive tenses. Also covered direct object pronouns and some vocab."
"During today's session with the student, we reviewed what we discussed and went over last week which included the present progressive tense as well as the preterite tense. I gave her a quiz to see how she understands the vocabulary in Spanish and she did extremely well. She is improving rapidly and I'm proud of not only how much interest she has in Spanish but also how much material she is absorbing throughout our sessions. After the quiz I gave to her we completed some translation exercises in which our main concentrations were proper pronunciation, grammar/context understanding and an increase in vocabulary usage. As a result we first read over a few stories in Spanish from the text book and then the second time around we translated it to English with breaking down the context in each sentence and paragraph. I was extremely proud of the work she was doing and how much she was learning. I felt that the work we have done was more of a Spanish III level so it was great to see how much she is advancing."
"We spent most of the session working on direct object pronouns, indirect object pronouns, and sentences that used them both at the same time. The hardest thing for the student seemed to be keeping track of which pronouns were direct or indirect, and how to determine the gender of certain words. He stayed determined throughout the lesson though, and with a little direction was able to figure out most of his problems on his own. Before the semester started again for him I asked him to get pictures of his midterm so that we could go over it. His homework for this week is to talk to his teacher about being able to look over his test as they have not gone over them in class and he is not sure that they will."
"The student and I spent the session going over topics covered in a review packet. These topics were mostly related to conjugating regular and irregular verbs in the past and present tense, and using direct and indirect object pronouns. The packet also made use of a wide a variety of vocabulary, which we reviewed. The student is showing progress in his ability to conjugate regular verbs, and remains motivated in his studies. He reported that last week's oral exam did not go well initially, but that his teacher saw how hard he was trying and let him retake it. He reports that he did well the second time. He will continue to practice."
"The student and I reviewed all of the topics that were included on the study guide for her final. She has gained a lot of confidence in Spanish, and she is a lot more aware of her specific strengths and areas of improvement. She currently has a B in her Spanish course, and getting feedback about how she does on the final will help to inform the approaches we'll take in her tutoring sessions moving forward."
