Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we went over the student's homework on mapping geometry (translation, rotation, reflection and dilation). The student said she had a good understanding of this particular topic and just applied the right formulas to get results. After we finished her homework, I gave her a couple of textbook problems which she completed without any trouble. At the end of the session, I assigned her 2 homework problems from the textbook."
"The student had done her whole practice test and reviewed the geometry section in the review book -- awesome job! Today, we worked on circles and moving between area and circumference, as well as trying out more difficult applications of the topics. She had a good grasp of area and circumference by the time the session was over; I left her with practice problems before we meet again Thursday that we will talk about then."
"We focused mainly on volumes of prisms and cylinders, and we also talked about special triangles and SOH CAH TOA. We started by working through a problem together. I asked him how he would solve it, and guided him along so he was actively participating. Then I had him walk me through a problem and explain to me how to solve it. This seemed to work really well; he was able to walk me through the problem that he didn't understand at the beginning of the session. We also worked through a word problem so he could put two different concepts together. Then I explained the special triangles (45, 45, 90 & 30, 60, 90) and the basics of SOH CAH TOA. I asked him to review the formulas we used in the session and I will be quizzing him on them next time. I also asked that he let me know what trigonometric identities he knows so I can find some proofs for us to go over next time."
"This was the first session for the review for her final exam. We covered rational equations and conical geometry. She has a good understanding of the information because it is a easier topic. The more complex information will covered next."
"The student and I reviewed for her exam which she will take on Thursday. This covers surface area and volume. We paid special attention to relating arc length to circumference and sector area to circle area. She was very confident in her abilities on this exam, so I'm anticipating she'll pull a good score."
"We mostly covered trigonometric functions, focusing on the differences between the functions, including cosecant, secant, and cotangent. We also briefly discussed series and sigma notation. The student mostly just needed a review of how sine, cosine, and tangent worked, and how she can use them to find lengths of sides of a right triangle if an angle is given. She has a positive attitude, and did well with the concepts discussed. We talked about ways to remember how cosecant relates to sine and so on with the other functions."
