Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"On Friday the student and I had a productive session. We prepared for his upcoming test on piecewise, absolute value, and greatest integral functions. He had a good grasp on each topic and should do well on the test."
"Both students worked on factoring quadratic equations. Student A is quite good at the factoring and requires very little help. She spent the session practicing a number of problems. Student B requires more help, from finding the factors to picking the right combination of factors that also equal the same trinomial. Student A doesn't particularly need any more strategies to solve the given problems. She only needs to practice what she's already learned. Student B must start by carefully reading the problem and identifying all possible factors for the x^2 term and constant term. She needs to carefully and slowly go through the steps to confirm her knowledge of the solution process."
"We reviewed finding the formula for a given sequence, completing the square, and a little bit about graphing quadratics. The student struggled a bit with finding a formula for a sequence but he had a better handle on it by the end."
"Today was spent doing 2 main things: completing the square and using the quadratic equation. This involved some pretty complex algebra, but the student did a good job keeping up and being careful with her math. She seemed to have a really solid grasp of this material as we went through it."
"We covered word problems dealing with making equations and graphing them, along with inequalities and solving systems of linear equations. The student didn't struggle much but we reviewed slope-intercept form and some other smaller concepts also."
"Today I helped the student with a Final Exam review packet. The student did well overall on the review, but needs to practice the entire packet to prepare for his test tomorrow. He is making enough small mistakes to affect his grade, but will iron those out with practice."
