Tutoring review by Garrett in Edgewood, NM
Last night the student and I started off by getting to know one another academically, comparing our study habits, styles of learning, and areas that need improvement. After the introduction we got to work on substitution and elimination problems. We worked on how to convert the problems into their original equations for a line. We also looked at graphing these lines and how you can predict intersections or parallel lines given the slope and y intercept. To finish the lesson off we touched on how a word problem could be used to express a substitution or elimination problem. The session went great!

The student and I first reviewed the metalloids. Next, we worked through dimensional analysis. He had some questions about the mnemonic KHDUdcm, which indicate the prefixes of the SI units (kilo, deci, etc..). We went over the strategy for dimensional analysis, which is arranging the units diagonally to cancel, then multiplying/ dividing across. After we did a few problems of chemistry, we went over geometry together. With the remaining time, we returned to dimensional analysis and completed the rest of the worksheet.

Topics Covered: More complex derivatives involving Chain Rule. Some problems incorporated Product Rule, Quotient rule, and Addition Rule of Derivatives within a chain of derivatives. Strategies for completing these processes were included. Student was asked to complete the remaining problems on the worksheet. Overall this session is a win because the student was able to perform complex derivatives with sufficient proficiency by the end of the session.

Tutoring review by Talia in Edgewood, NM
The student had a homework assignment from her textbook on graphing inequalities and transformations. She struggles with the physical aspects of the graph like spacing out her intervals on her axis properly. Using graph paper helps her succeed in graphing and spacing out her graphs appropriately. She was very good at performing the transformations and she did well with solving the algebraic expressions. We then moved onto a homework assignment for her science class on Earth's rotation, revolution, and the phenomenon of seasons. She was asked questions on what causes seasons as well as asked to define many vocabulary terms. She had notes for this assignment so she did not struggle to complete it easily.

I went over the chapters with the student for her midterm. It is always a pleasure to work with her. She knows her stuff. After the break, I will surely focus on how to advance her to another level of study instead of homework help that she should have no problems with.
