"Ever since I took a math class, I would help at least one or two students as the semesters progressed. In college, I started arranging free tutoring sessions with classmates in subjects ranging from calculus to statistics to economics. Several of my "clients" advised me to charge for my time, so I decided to take their advice. Along with teenagers, I have also helped neighborhood kids with arithmetic, some of them in third grade; age is not a determining factor when it comes to my services."

"Consider them a high five for your confidence.Through my experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor, my interaction and preferred method of communication with students is one that speaks to them as equals. It is through this form of communication I am able to express, relate, educate, and empower students to be confident, organized, and well prepared test takers. In my free time I lead a run group that meets once a week, practice yoga, train for marathons as a competitive runner, watch football on Sundays, and take my chocolate labrador Brooklyn to the dog park.." ...

"I first started tutoring while going to college and quickly decided that it was something I was interested doing long term, with the goal of becoming a teacher. While tutoring there, I had the chance to work with students as young as third grade all the way up to the elderly, ranging from wanting free credit all the way to students truly wanting to learn and understand what they were doing. Several of the students I have tutored have gotten into prestigious colleges, such as UCLA and Berkeley. At the college, I primarily tutored math, from basic math up to differential equations, but that does not mean I only do math." ...

A photo of Karlye who is one of our Los Angeles Economics tutors
" As a teaching assistant in economics at Johns Hopkins University, I learned very quickly that it is not uncommon for students to feel anxiety over math, and I feel that anxiety is both unjustified and reparable. It is my belief that anyone can master the tools necessary to solve the puzzles that math problems present, if only they can approach the problem with confidence and flexibility. Imbuing students with that confidence is one of the greatest rewards of being a tutor, and I find enormous personal satisfaction in cultivating the critical thinking skills necessary to achieve it. In my free time, I enjoying cooking, dancing and puzzle ...

" I believe people rarely succeed unless they learn to enjoy what they are doing, making it a great responsibility to be an educator or tutor. I've found through previous tutoring experience that listening well and relating the subject to the student's everyday life is critical to a student's desire to learn. Through trying to create a fun atmosphere to learn in and relating everyday life in the learning process, I have helped students in the past improve their grades dramatically. In 2009, one of my German students not only improved his grade from failing to a "B," but also signed up to be an exchange student in Switzerland for the ...

A photo of Laila who is one of our Los Angeles Economics tutors
" The subject I'm most passionate about tutoring are Economics and Math - and thankfully, they go hand in hand. I believe the best educator is the simplifier, and that anybody has the capacity to understand a concept - as long as it is communicated in words that make sense in their world. As a tutor, I strive to understand the language my student 'thinks' in, and communicate with them accordingly.."
