Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her algebra 2 homework, which consisted of graphing systems of equations to find the solution. The main struggle was making the graph perfect, so that the answer was visible, but once she learns how to do systems in class, the process will be much easier. No concerns from this session."
"The student and I continued working on the concepts we covered last week. After practicing finding the area of rectangles and squares I introduced her to the formula for finding the area of triangles. We reviewed exponents and perfect squares. She worked through several workbook pages of solving equations."
"Correlation and scatterplots with 2 variables for statistics. We also discussed least-squares regression lines. We spent some time with Algebra 2 material, such as matrix multiplication, systems of equations with matrices, and inverses of matrices. He mentioned after we spoke last week and he got a 90% on his stats test and a 100% on his Algebra 2 test."
"For this session the student and I covered ratios with included and excluded numbers. We also worked on a sequential equation and the properties of circles. With each problem, he seems to be getting back his skills and grows more confident. We took a look at his notes to assess how they looked and if they seemed like they would help. His notes are appropriate for grade level and I believe he will continue to grow in his math skills with guidance and practice"
"The student and I worked on story problems covering ratios of proportionality. He showed me a quiz from last week in which he only got one problem wrong. He has improved his ability to read story problem thoroughly, but he needs to write down the steps to solve the problem in a more organized fashion so he does not get confused."
"The student and I covered multiplying decimals by each other as well as multiplying decimals times 10, 100, and 1,000. These were problems from her homework. In this session, she had the most difficulty with moving the decimal place to either the left or the right."
"The student and I covered solving inequalities with absolute value. Factoring quadratics, factoring polynomials, difference of squares. He has a test next week that he is studying for. Still needs help on domain and range of a function. No concerns."
"We covered the student's study guide for her upcoming test. It was about using derivatives and second derivatives of a function to analyze attributes of the function. I gave her an outline of concepts and definitions for her test. We also discussed what topics we will be going over next week."
"Wednesday the student and I covered the information given on her previous test. She stated that she felt much better after reviewing the test with me. There weren't any major concerns."
"The student and I went through her homework on radicals and exponentials. She has trouble recognizing when to keep things in radical form and when to change them to exponential form. Then we started review for her test, focusing on using scientific notation."
"In this session, we went over a review packet the student had to complete to prepare for a quiz tomorrow. The review covered graphing a system of linear inequalities, solving a system of 3 equations, factoring trinomials, and graphing vertical and horizontal shifts of functions. He showed me that he scored a 99 on his last quiz and he has since received all A's on his last assignments. He had more practice problems to work on. No notes of concern."
"The student and I moved to the in class practice test from today or yesterday. She understands transformations and vertex, but doesn't always recognize when the vertex form is in front of her. She recognizes the present of complex numbers. She can find zeros via factoring and the quadratic formula. She seems to understand a concept by the end of a session."
