Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I worked with the student on completing two lessons from his online language assignments. We completed lesson 13 and lesson 14. Both lessons were from the poetry unit and looked at descriptive language. After that, we read from his new book as well as chapter 7 of his independent reading book. He was very focused this week and had a great attitude."
"First student: In math, we worked on learning parts of a whole and how to identify them from pictures. The next half of his session was spent on reading. He identified different vowel sounds ear, er, ir and the various words with those sounds. We also worked on writing the words down to work on his handwriting and penmanship on his lower case letters. Second student: We worked on her written paragraph and corrected the errors. Most of her errors were from using unnecessary upper case letters, and they could be avoided if she takes more time, so she was asked to write another paragraph. She then read off a list of 6th grade spelling words I provided and then engaged in an online quiz to spell them correctly on her own, from a mix of incorrectly spelled words. It was very helpful in making her realize the correct spellings of previously unknown words."
"Student had a very positive attitude and came prepared with the practice test I asked her to take. We went over the reading and multiple choice, as well as reading and short answer sections of the test. We talked about always going back to the text when answering multiple choice questions, and we wrote down a list of vocab words and their definitions when we came across ones that she didn't know. With the short answer questions we talked about using a good quote from the reading as supportive evidence in the response. When I left I told her to add two quotes to her long answer response for tomorrow and to review the vocab words."
