Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I continued to review for the Assessment exam in state history. We discussed geography (physical features and location) and government (the creation/role of the Constitution). We also began to review state history, specifically the time period leading up to the Civil War. She answered short review quizzes (15-20 questions) and then we graded them together. The questions that she missed we reviewed and discussed. In the government portion, she struggled with the roles and responsibilities of the Legislative branch of government. There was also some confusion about checks and balances and how it affects the actions of the governmental branches. We discussed these topics and I gave her a detailed handout to help her review on her own. For the history portion, she did very well. The questions that she missed were not due to not knowing the answer, but to either misreading the question or misunderstanding the question. When we reviewed the questions and I read them aloud, she better understood the question and immediately identified the correct answer. I asked her how she could improve with this, and she replied that she needs to slow down and be sure to read each question carefully. I also encouraged her to write on the test--cross out answer choices that she knows are wrong, circle key words in the question, write notes in the margin--to make sure she is staying focused and paying attention to what she is doing. I left all of the practice quizzes and the two review packets with her to work on. I will have more quizzes and review packs when we meet next week. Very good session!"

"I helped the student prepare for her upcoming test by going over a study and preparing for the essay questions. The test was over WWII and the Holocaust."
