Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered how to find maximums and minimums, how to use the first and second derivative tests, and optimization problems."
"This was my first session with the student. We worked on antiderivatives and Riemann sums on her homework. She has a good grasp of derivatives but struggles with more complex applications. Riemann sums were more difficult for her so I helped her visualize what she was doing using graphs and diagrams, stressing the differences of left hand, right hand and midpoint sums. After finishing her homework, we briefly reviewed a few concepts (Newton's law, Rolle's Theorem) that she had previously covered and hadn't fully understood. Overall, the student is a very dedicated student who has a good grasp of math concepts but benefits from small hints and someone to talk the problem through with."
"Review of calculus topic for a test, including mean value theorem, F.T.o.Calc., Riemann sums, 2-d/3-d integrals. Short review of physics topics of energy and work for quiz."
"The student's class has just begun a unit over polar coordinates and vectors, and she wanted to work ahead a little bit this morning. We previewed lessons on graphing polar equations, checking polar symmetry, polar form of complex numbers, polar arithmetic, vector notation, vector arithmetic up to dot products, and finding parallel and orthogonal vectors."
"Today, we went over an introduction to sequences and series. The student understood the material well, and did not need help often. After he finished his homework assignment, he finished his make-up work on trigonometric integrals with sines and cosines."
"Today we focused on methods to calculate rotational volumes, using the disk/ washer methods and shell methods. Further, we solved several optimization problems which always reduced to a constraint equation and a volume/ function that had to be maximized. The student is getting prepared for the exam diligently and is ready to significantly improve her class grade."
