Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session was much more productive and successful. I came in with a lesson plan on ANOVA tables which made it much more easy for the student to understand the concepts and what the homework was asking. Afterwards, she seemed much more confident with the material with a good understanding of the concepts and how to do the calculations for an ANOVA table, and using it to either accept or reject the hypothesis in a question. We also went over calculating expected values when given frequencies, to decide whether or not two events are independent or dependent of each other. We also went over comparisons of means, which used T-value tests. She did quite well with this lesson too. Through out the session, we prepared a "cheat sheet" for her test, which she was allowed to have for her test tomorrow. The cheat sheet was helpful and a good way for her to study."
"Today we moved on from ANOVA to regression and chi-square tests. We spent most of the time going over the concepts behind correlation, regression, and chi-square as well as when and why they are useful. The rest of the time we conducted correlation and regression on an example study, in the process reviewing how to use excel to conduct statistical tests, how to interpret output, and how to represent data graphically. Although the new topics are overwhelming at first, the student seemed to do well grasping their basic concepts. We made good progress today, and only have a few assignments left in the course!"
"The student and I began by going over her take home quiz and ensuring that she did the steps correctly. Once we finished that, we went over her last exam and re-worked all of the problems that she got incorrect, making sure to focus on how to do each of the problems and what calculator functions would bring her to the correct answer. We finished the session by doing a light review of the topics that she has learned thus far in the course."
"During our session, we discussed the final exam (Sunday) and problems that are related to previous homework assignments from this course. Between now and our next session, we will be reviewing answer keys from previous assignments so that we can work on final exam response wording according to what the professor is looking for. I will be running some of the regressions and analysis tonight to check work on specific calculations and we will be discussing in further detail tomorrow morning."
"The student and I reviewed problems she missed points on her previous tests, to better prepare her for the test she has today. This mostly included reviewing terminology, tests and proofs to back inference made by statistical data."
"We went over questions on her quiz 9 that she was not sure about. Those questions concerned statistical concepts such as correlation, analysis of variance, face validity, and chi-square tests."
