Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed all of the chemistry sections that could show up for his quiz on Monday. We covered the subatomic particles, the four macromolecules, chemical reactions, pH, and bonding. He was able to answer most of the questions and explained to me many of the concepts in detail. He seems to have a firm understanding and I believe he will do well on his quiz."
"As planned, I gave the student a quiz on mitosis to begin the session. We went through the quiz together and spent some more time reviewing mitosis and the rest of the cell cycle. She has a test this week so for our next session I'm going to give her another quiz so she will study during the week. For geometry we continued to go through sample problems on triangles. The student finished both problem sets that I gave her for homework so we started reviewing those first. For our next session I told the student that I will be giving her quizzes on both topics so she will spend time reviewing these topics during the week."
"The student was wearing a comic book character t-shirt, so we talked (me in German, he in English) about our favorite superheroes, who was strongest, who could fly, and what their powers were. We also talked a little about Halloween and what we were dressing up as. His library book this week was about construction equipment. We finished with practicing sounding out words."
"We covered topics the student needed to review before her upcoming exam. We reviewed general concepts for how to read H NMR results and applied those to a lab report she had completed. We also reviewed 13C NMR, DEPT and IR spectroscopy. In addition, we worked on the concept of aromaticity and how to determine whether a molecule is aromatic, antiaromatic or nonaromatic. The student is very intelligent and, with little guidance, she has grasped complex concepts."
" Today we did some last minute math prep, but I didn't want to overload her brain before the test. At the very least, she's got some better math at her fingertips, but I'm also confident she'll see her score improve."
"Today we covered international trade and appreciation and depreciation of currencies. His attitude was good. I reviewed his worksheet with him to make sure it made sense. I did not leave him extra practice. He had most of the concepts down by the end of the session."
