Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we covered: --We worked on basic geometry problems, including how to find perimeter, area, and volume of squares, rectangles, and cubes. -We began looking at the practice test at the end of the book to find his strengths and weaknesses. We will continue when he brings his practice test next session."
"The student and I had a fantastic last session before his test. Though we had originally planned to spend just a few minutes on some logic problems before transitioning to math, we ended up spending a great deal more on logic. He'd been challenged by visually representing logic problems that required ordering, so we started using logic grids to help guide him through each one in a consistent manner. He took to the technique well. For math, we surveyed a variety of problems he thought he might have challenges with on the exam. I encouraged him to look over every problem when he first sits down to take the test, circle those he anticipates any trouble or confusion with, and leave those until last. I told him to focus on solving as many problems as possible, and thinking of any harder problems he can solve afterwards as a bonus. Overall, this was by far his strongest work yet."
"Began with normal anticipatory set: introductions, general test strategies, personal objectives, and discussion of past experiences with the test format. We began a thorough review of English, and I noticed immediately that this was a strong subject for her. In the interest of being thorough, we went through each tested principle anyway, and concluded by looking at two sample English passages. There were one or two missed questions, but the student identified her errors right away; it is clear that this is a section that she is very comfortable with. We moved on to Math, and she also has a firm grasp of elementary and intermediate algebra. Some unfamiliarity with logarithms and sequences, but she applied logic well and I think she will have little difficulty after reviewing the necessary formulas. Next session we will look at geometry and have a summative review of Math."
