Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Scott in Duluth, GA
We covered use of the ideal gas law, PV=nRT, since it relates to answering questions related to chemical reactions with gases. We discussed the need to read the question, look at what is being asked, what is being asked for, and what is known before actually working on the problem. I demonstrated this with a few problems he was working on and then had him try to do it with me on others. It is a work in progress, and practicing will help him develop this skill.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Karla in Duluth, GA
We started a new section in chemistry which was chemical reactions. I put together s worksheet for the student, and she filled it out as we went along with the chapter material. I introduced the basics of what a chemistry reaction entail (equation, how to tell when a reaction is occurring, etc.), and she seemed to understand the concept real well. I assigned the rest of the worksheet to her for homework.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Sarah in Duluth, GA
The student had a homework assignment dealing with the gas laws of chemistry. We began our session by going over the conversion factors for the different measures of pressure including atmospheres, mm Hg (or torr), and Pascal's. We went over how to set up conversions using the same method we had used during the stoichiometry section. We also went over the different laws: Boyle's Law (p1v1=p2v2); Charles' Law (v1/t1=v2/t2); Gay-Lussac's Law (p1/t1=p1/t1); the Mixed Gas Law (p1v1/t1 = p2v2/t2); and the Ideal Gas Law (PV=nRT). We discussed the different ways to remember these equations and how to choose and use these. We then applied these to her homework emphasizing using calculator skills and making sure that she did the proper operations in order to solve for the unknown values. I also gave her some multi-step problems that included converting values before or after performing the operations using the gas laws from memory. She is showing a great understanding of this material.
