Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Monday the students and I went over some last minute questions they had about political parties, factions, elections and campaigns, some of the Amendments, and general exam strategies. We talked about ways in which to read multiple choice questions and eliminate wrong answers, as well as how to select answers when the question is not totally clear. They seemed to grasp the big-picture concepts and focused on detailed and specific issues. We also talked about how to outline and plan an essay question to ensure a complete answer in the time allotted."
"In this session, the student and I went over a practice AP exam piece by piece. We broke down all types of questions and how best to approach them. He progressed well throughout the semester and finished his last exam with an "A". I left him to practice voting policy and voting trends."
"The student and I continued work on her paper, leaving us with only 3 or so more sections to complete. I anticipate her having the rough draft of the paper finished by the end of our next session."
"We worked on a project the student had questions on. I went over the instructions with her to make it more clear and helped pick a topic. We created a more refined topic for her to focus on, made an outline plan to discuss the topic, and found sources for her to use to research the topic. She had a great understanding about the project after the session."
"The student had missed some school. I introduced the lesson on the Judicial system. We also reviewed the basics of government and the bill-making process."
"Today was our first lesson. We went over the sorts of questions that will be on the exam and study methods to prepare effectively for the AP exam. We tried a few practice multiple-choice questions because they are different from most of what has been done in class. We then went through the first two units of the course, which can be covered quickly since they account for a smaller chunk of the exam. I think this was a great start!"
