Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the free response section of the AP test I sent her last week, and of the 54 points available I think she got something like 45 of them. Definitely a good score. We spent the rest of the time going over the specifics of the problems and making sure everything was solid and then I just threw general form exponential growth problems at her. We ended class with test taking strategies, how to take shortcuts without invalidating the math, where you can eat time and where you can afford to take time."
"I gave her an overview of antiderivatives, and we did a number of problems both assigned and not assigned."
"We wanted to review for his upcoming test this week. We went over his test review topics including critical points, intervals of increasing/decreasing, and finding local and absolute maxes and minimums. He is doing great in his class, trying to secure an "A.""
"The student began working on problems from a new section of his textbook during our session, all of which were dedicated to introductory differential equations. The first couple sets of his assignments were dedicated to separable equations, so we began by going over this topic as I taught him its fundamental principles. We looked at a few examples of how to separate the variables of a differential equation, and then he began working on the assigned problems. He worked through each one very well, recognizing how to separate the equations so that each side could be integrated with respect to the appropriate variable. He already understands the concept very well and now has a very good foundation for solving more difficult differential equations in the future."
"The student and I covered implicit differentiation. We did several problems involving the product rule and the chain rule and trig functions. We calculated slopes and examined the graphs of complex functions to determine tension lines. He is proficient at taking derivatives and is working on understanding the conceptual basis of calculus."
"The student did extremely well on the u-substitution problems and came prepared with questions on them. He was able to do all 3 of the problems that I set out for him to 100% accuracy. We then reviewed optimization problems. He was able to do the two problems at about 90% accuracy, as he needed some prompting on how to start the problems. He is to complete the remaining optimization problems from last week as well as problems that were sent to him on integration using u-substitution for Tuesday's session."
