Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished covering the writing section today. We went over the remaining rules and completed a practice section."
"The student and I spent this session focusing on the critical reading and writing sections of the SAT. We began by reviewing and refining techniques that we had discussed in previous sessions for working through the passage-based reading questions with maximum clarity of understanding and revisited the need to choose an answer based strictly on the contents (or implications) of the passage as written, rather than on common sense or personal opinion. We then turned our attention to the writing section, specifically improving sentences and improving paragraphs. It had been a few sessions since we worked with these questions, and some of them offered the student the chance to refresh his memory of such common errors as lack of subject-verb agreement or of parallel construction in a pair or list. Once he felt comfortable with all of the material we'd looked at in the multiple-choice writing section, he asked that we talk a little more about what makes an essay strong or weak. We did so, using one of the sample essays in our study guide as a point of departure."
"The student did part of an SAT practice test. I scored his essay, and we discussed how he might improve his writing."
