Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our first session. The student completed a free-write. He tried to vary sentence structure by using compound sentences, but had a little difficulty using coordinating conjunctions properly. He fixed these errors with some help. In regards to reading, he is building fluency. He can self-correct within a reasonable period of time. I would like to add that he was very focused during our session."
"We started our session by downloading a new app on reading comprehension. The work that we did centered around reading a short story and then answering 13 questions. These questions were followed by 4 possible choices. The computer holds a record of what the student achieves. Next, we used a workbook to work on multiplication. The problem consisted of 2 to 3 numbers on the first line and 2 numbers on the second line of each problem. All problems included decimals. He was an excellent student, as usual."
"The student's father said that the student needs to finish "Roll of Thunder..." (Chapter 10, 11, & 12). We started with some handwriting practice on the special whiteboard I brought with me again. I gave the student 3- and 2.5-minute time limits to practice writing both accurately and quickly. We will keep practicing and getting faster. Then, he and I reviewed the event picture and text plot sequence summary of Chapter 9 of "Roll of Thunder..." as a model to make one for Chapter 10 (and eventually Ch 11 & 12) with the pictures and worksheets I brought. I read the longer text chapter summary, and then told the student which pictures and text to use because he was having too much trouble understanding what to do. Finally, we watched the relevant portions of the movie version."
