"We worked on scrambled paragraphs for most of the session, but I also worked with the student on a couple of math concepts and we went over the verbal section of a practice test he did for homework."
"Practiced math section and reviewed concepts from last time. Learned approaches to setting up and solving various types of problems."
"We went right to work with the reading section of the SAT. We discussed the reading section and the different parts that are found in this section. I told the student that most students have difficulty with the vocabulary by spending too much time on these questions and not enough time on the passages. I asked her if she had any questions, she said no, so we got started with section 4 of practice test #2. At about 4 minutes she was done with the vocabulary questions and moved on to the first passage. At about 8 minutes she moved on to the last passage. She seemed confident. She would read through the passages and then answer the questions going back to the passage as needed. She also crossed out answers she believed to be incorrect. She finished section 4 in 19 minutes and 30 seconds, leaving 5 minutes and 30 seconds if she needed it. She omitted 6 answers, scored 7 incorrect, and 12 correct. Section 4 consisted of 8 vocabulary questions, 2 small passages, and 1 large passage. She said that the vocabulary was the hardest part of the section for her and looking over her results that section is where she scored the most incorrect answers. For section 7, she and I decided to have her start right with the passages and skip the vocabulary. This way she could take her time on each passage and on the vocabulary at the end of the test, really breaking down each word to see how it would fit into each question. Section 7 consisted of 5 vocabulary, 2 small passages, and 2 large passages. The strategy of having the student start with the passage and then complete the vocabulary seemed to work much better than going straight through. She only had 30 seconds left, finishing the section in 24 minutes and 30 seconds. She finished by omitting 1 answer, scoring 7 incorrect answers, and 16 correct answers. She said that she felt much better about this section then the last and likes this strategy a lot. The last reading section, section 9 consisted of 6 vocabulary questions, and 1 large passage. She once again started right with the passage. I told her that for this section she was not allowed to answer a question unless she crossed out at least 3 answers she believed to be incorrect. She omitted no questions, scored 7 answers incorrect, and 11 answers correct. Overall she scored a 520 on the Math section of the SAT."
