Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over his school schedule and organizational skills. We focused our session on time management, organization, and study skills. He is a bright kid and just needs additional guidance/motivation to excel in school."
"He had to finalize his memoir. He also had a home extra credit packet to complete. He researched different careers and choose one to write about on the paper. He has a social studies test on Thursday, so we completed his map practice. We will review the content portion tomorrow."
"Today, the student's father told me that she has began to keep up with her workload and score highly on her tests! On her last test she received a 90%! I am so proud of her! We all knew she had the potential to do great work and now she sees that she can do it herself! For our lesson tonight, we worked on getting her prepared for her next test in her English class. She has to know 5 chapters of her assigned book. Since her book is at school, we read over the summaries online and made a study guide. Afterwards I quizzed her on what we just went over and she knew about 95% of it. I feel confident with a bit more studying she will ace her test tomorrow!"
"We spent 45 minutes on the student's outline for his short history research paper on the Erie Canal. Overall, it was very good, but we edited some grammar and added a few bullets. Particularly, we added bullets in regards to the construction issues faced. We then spent the next 45 minutes on his science research paper on tsunamis. He had a lot of great information in his report, and we worked on grammar and making sure the sentences flowed from one to the next. We got about 2/3 of the way through, so he has more to work on himself. He told me that his English paper grade moved from a B+/A- to an A-/A. He also received a B+ on his history test (two wrong), which was a great improvement."
"We studied vocabulary, completed Romeo and Juliet Act 1 questions, wrote an outline for the student's universal concept paragraph, and began editing the information. She did well at vocabulary, increasing her scores every time."
"The student worked on study skills for vocabulary. He found current unit's online flashcards and reviewed terms, definitions, parts of speech and antonyms/ synonyms. He prefers this method over the traditional note cards. He was able to recite definitions after practice. I advised him to review daily before his upcoming test. For biology, he reviewed Pedigree traits and I assisted with developing study tools for learning the material. We found additional worksheets online for additional practice."
