Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed timed practice and reviewed his answers for short passages and argument structure passages. He is getting more and more of the short passage answers correct and is improving with his timing; the next stage is to decrease the timing needed even further. We discussed ways to do this: figure out his "game mode" focus strategies, take more mental and fewer written notes, and practice more reading comprehension on passages (without questions) to quicken processing speed. He and I also looked at some argument structure passages and concluded that the questions involving two bolded statements prove the most tricky. In preparation for our next session on Sunday, he will complete some Reading Comprehension Practice quizzes (compilation of long, short, and argument structure) and use Self-Reflection questions to analyze his answer choices and process."
"The student completed a verbal practice set and proceeded to engage a particularly difficult essay prompt. We got as far as ideating as to the arguments we might try to make before time ran out. We also spoke about goals for future tutoring sessions. I suggested he begin writing a journal in English in order to immerse himself in the language even more so than he is now."
"Today we reviewed the exercises in the Verbal workbook on word groups and worked on familiarizing the student with more vocabulary terms. Next time, we will continue with the vocabulary work and hopefully also follow up on any remaining math questions the student has."
