"Today, the student and I read a chapter of a book he had to read for school together. The book was about a family of owls wondering why their eggs were disappearing. We read through it together, and then the student needed to write a summary to his teacher about what he read. He did a pretty good job of summarizing the chapter he read."
"Today the student and I worked on writing and making inferences from stories. She did very well with everything. I gave her several vocabulary words and asked her to write me a two paragraph story on each set of words. She was very creative with this assignment."
"Today we continued in the two workbooks I suggested for the student. We reviewed the vocab words from last time, as well as started a new lesson. In her grammar book, she seems to be doing really well with understanding how to change up sentence structure to make paragraphs sound more interesting and less monotonous. She is doing really well and moving at a great pace."
"Today we had a conversational class about favorite childhood memories and fun family traditions. It was a great class for learning new vocabulary and the correct use of "used to" to talk about past habits compared to the simple past to talk about completed actions in the past."
"We discussed the origins and spread of several ancient religions during the classical era (Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, Confucianism, etc.). We compared and contrasted the impact that each religion had on society."
"The student completed his final draft of his narrative paper, and we went over it The last few minutes we talked about the fact that he is going to be reading Scarlet Letter. He says his teacher asked him to look for dark and light elements in the book. I gave him suggestions about writing summaries on each page so it would be easier to find when trying to locate a specific passage."
