Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed for final, topics covered electromagnetism, optics, heat, work, energy conservation, and friction."
"The student practiced part two of a practice earth science exam. Extra help and modeling of correct answers were focused on topography maps."
"Force and kinetic motion problems in preparation for final exam. I noted importance of not rounding prior to getting final answer, discussed free body diagrams, equilibrium equations, the importance of choosing the direction of positive force prior to writing equations and choosing angle of inclination properly."
"We covered Darwin's theory of evolution from the student's textbook, going over all the topics and questions from each section. We went over Lamarck, Hutton, Lyell, and Malthus' theories to connect with Darwin's theory. Each of the vocabulary terms were explored to allow the student a full understanding of the topic. She wanted a review of the chapter so to be better prepared for her test. She was knowledgeable about each of the topics, but struggled to place them into words. We went over a lot of key words to use with each of the concepts. She is able to recognize answers immediately in multiple choice questions, which is successful as her tests are similar."
"The student's final is coming soon, so we went over as much of the material from the book as possible, focusing on the material from our earlier sessions. We reviewed most of the material rather quickly, slowing down when we came to a topic where he needed more explanation. We are having one more session before his final. Prior to that session, he will study on his own time, pinpointing the topics that he needs the most help on. I also suggested that if he could think of a topic where it would be helpful, I could find and send him a video to help clarify the process."
"The student is preparing for her Biology exam. Prior to the session, her parents provided an example of a recent quiz and a class syllabus. Some of the material included meiosis vs mitosis, animal cell structure, chemistry of water, and the structure of DNA. On a much broader scale, she has covered biochemistry, genetics, and introductory biology. Because her exam is quickly approaching, we primarily focused on study skills, and I provided a couple of study skill techniques. I recommended using the study guide as a reference to make note cards to help her prepare for her exam. She tries really hard and is interested in the subject. Overall, I was very pleased with the session."
