Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent the whole session preparing for an 'interview' each student has to do with his teacher on Wednesday. She gave the class a list of 10 questions (most of them that will require vocabulary on emotions/states of being/illness) and will choose 5 to ask them. They must answer in complete sentences. He was responsible for constructing his own complete sentences in response (with a bit of my guidance), and afterwards we practiced each question once and he did really well."
"Today we went over two main areas that the student wants to practice in order to improve her grades in Spanish class. We went over the preterite and the imperfect tenses, and then we went over reflexive commands as well. Her book for school is online, so I suggested getting the print version of the book in order to enable easier studying."
"This week we began delving more into travel-related vocabulary, since the student plans on using his Spanish primarily for travel. We began with a review of directions, place names, and transportation in Spanish and did conversational practice with giving and receiving directions. We also reviewed the preterite tense and did more conversational practice about likes and dislikes related to food and traveling using both the present and preterite tenses."
"This session lasted a bit longer than the usual time as the student was preparing for her chapter exam. It was a very productive session, and we reviewed all the vocabulary and grammar that was covered in this chapter. In addition to that, we worked on classwork exercises based on that chapter. She did well and showed thorough understanding of the material."
"Last week, the student wanted help in understanding when to use direct object pronouns, so I brought excerpts from my workbook that discussed the concept, and he completed an accompanying worksheet. He also received materials about indirect object pronouns. Our session ended with a few minutes of Spanish conversation."
"The student and I had a great session (as usual) today! We spent the time going over a new set of vocabulary that he is very interested in learning, which is food words. He did really well! We also went over a conversation in the book we use; he repeated after me and did very well. His pronunciation is really coming along and he is learning not to pronounce the last letter of words since it's almost never called for in French. He really enjoyed his session and is looking forward to reviewing in our next one in two weeks."
