Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over the student's exam, he did very well. We went over chapter 4 which focused on the chain rule and implicit differentiation. The student picked up the concepts quickly."
"The student has a take home quiz that we worked on together. He is now working on elimination, substation as well as work problems. He has some graphing problems as well so we worked on his quiz and the student needed some help on a few problems but for the most part he did well on his own."
"For this session, the student and I covered graphing equations as well as solving equations of shrinking and expansion, including absolute value. Overall, he has a good grasp of the material."
"For this session, we worked on homework problems that the student explained she was having trouble doing on her own. The assignment covered linear relationships, identifying solution points to linear equations and graphing coordinate points and lines. She seems to be understanding the material a lot better. We are still waiting for her to receive her grade for the latest test she took for math."
"We reviewed for her upcoming test this next week. The student is very strong in her basic algebra skills. We reviewed inequalities, absolute value functions, inverse functions, domain and range, and so much more."
"We reviewed using variables in applied situations and in patterns, properties of real/irrational/integer numbers, and solving inequalities and systems of equations. On the whole, she is really strong on the material. Mostly it is review for her, but she was nonetheless very sharp and able to articulate her method and reasoning."
"We reviewed multiples of 2's and 3's, long division, and adding and subtracting fractions. During our session, it was clear that the student had a much better understanding of long division since earlier this week and can now do a problem without my assistance. He also has a better understanding of adding and subtracting fractions--particularly when it comes to finding common denominators--but we will continue to work in this area until he has a proficient understanding of the material. I asked him to continue studying his multiplication tables, specifically multiples of 4-8. I also gave him quizzes to assist him in his studies. Next session, we will review what he studied as well as continue working on fractions."
"The student is studying Geometry this year and while she feels much more comfortable with it than she did with Algebra, she had some questions about rigid transformations. We reviewed rules and process for rotation, translation, and reflection. She got the hang of these transformations very quickly. It's delightful to see her so enthusiastic about Math work."
"Today the student and I worked on solving proportions from word problems and from similar figures. He was challenged with setting up the proportion and placing the numbers in the correct position. I showed him how to label his proportions to help him place the numbers in the correct position. I also showed him how to simplify his proportions before using the cross product method to solve. We worked through to sections in the text book of word problems that talk about how proportions are used with percentage. Good session."
"We reviewed for his upcoming chapter test on Tuesday. We mainly worked on special angle relationships involving parallel lines. He had struggled with solving simultaneous equations when working with two unknown variables, but he simply needed a little review of the algebra and how to use substitution and elimination. He demonstrated a very good understanding of the topics of the chapter including solving sequences for the nth term. He understood all the special angle relationships involving parallel lines, and is able to solve for unknown angles in diagrams. He seems extremely prepared for his upcoming test and expect him to do well."
"We covered his exam, as well as multiplying terms with decimals. The student was struggling with multiplying decimals and keeping his work neat. I gave him extra practice with the decimals, and also had him erase his work if it was not neat enough."
"Today we reviewed the first two sections of derivatives including the sum/difference and power rules. We discussed the "easy" way to do derivatives and covered the homework that the student has due on Monday."
