Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We listened to Ch. 8-9 of "Frindle" and discussed the structure of short fictions (especially "Climax"). We finished the Simon Bolivar book and did text-to-text connections with Thomas Jefferson. Lastly, we read another T.J. chapter. The student's comprehension is improving very much."
"This week, the student and I went over three more chapters of "A Wrinkle in Time." He's still working on summarizing each chapter, so we spent almost the entire session going back over the chapters and editing his summaries to be even more reflective of the plot line of the story."
"Student 1 and I finished reading the novel The Titan's Curse. He was again able to summarize important events in great detail. We wrapped up the story discussing questions still left unanswered and predictions for the fourth book in the series. We concluded our session working on identifying context clues in a standardized testing practice book. Student 2 and I read from the novel Hoot. We did a pre-writing web-making activity to outline the main character. We will incorporate this web into a paragraph writing activity that will help prepare her for her fourth grade Reading class next year. Student 3 and I worked on identifying the vowels and the sounds they make. We practiced writing upper and lower case letters and reading simple words with basic letter blends."
