"The student read a non-fiction piece based on real shark attacks, and then later returned to Thomas Jefferson's story. He was excited to discuss literature and carried on the literary conversation well (with details and showing much comprehension)."
"The student and I finished planning and writing up his science fair project. We devised the procedure, created a data collection table, and wrote a survey. We also designed and practiced the protocol for conducting the experiment, then collected five data points. Finally, we discussed how he could use circle graphs to display his data. He showed excellent attention to detail and critical thinking today!"
"The student read out loud from "The Three Musketeers" again today, since we did only reading comprehension practice from his practice book last time. When we had about twenty minutes until the end of the session, I asked him to stop reading, and we discussed what had happened in the story and the character development so far. We've read far enough into the story now that I was able to ask him some questions about characters now versus characters at the beginning of the story. We also compared characters and discussed moral lessons from the story. He sometimes needed direction as to where to find the information in the book which we were discussing, but other times, he was able to discuss questions based entirely on his own memory. On Monday, we will do more practice from his practice book, as I am saving things like that for the days we have earlier sessions. I'm hoping this will help him to concentrate on the less fun practice."
