Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I worked through the last chapter of the pronunciation workbook, and we have now gone through the entire book. I plan on reviewing the concepts in upcoming weeks, but the speed at which we have been able to successfully move through each chapter demonstrates not only her eagerness, but also her aptitude. I will continue to keep the lessons lighthearted and fun without too much emphasis on testing. I can, however, create a mini-test over the pronunciation material if you would like! I still think she will need some time to be able to pronounce the more difficult words independently, as she tends to rely on listening to me say it first, but I don't think this is a major issue right now because she is able to repeat the word(s) immediately in near-perfect tone. We spent the last 30 minutes of class reviewing her flashcards, which went pretty well. I reminded her that she has come a long way in our sessions and emphasized the larger number of flashcards that she is able to recognize immediately each week. As always, if she has some free time during the week, try to practice reviewing the cards with her to increase exposure time. Even if she is not able to pronounce them 100% correctly, she will still be able to see the words on paper."
"In this class the student and I talked about Chinese New Year, the story, the tradition and new vocabularies associated with this holiday. Then we went on and worked on describing the houses/rooms/directions."
"This lesson served as a post-holiday refresher to get back into the groove. We reviewed key phrases, critical vocab, and radicals. Her recall was very good given the lapse in time since our last lesson."
