"We played a spelling game today, and the student did a great job, particularly with the strategy of the game, using big words, and using words with unusual letters. I may continue to employ this method with him, as this is most effective in helping him on spelling words. Next time he and I meet, I will probably give him an assessment to see how he has progressed since we first started meeting."
"We read from library books about lizards, geckos and chameleons. Specifically, we worked on long and short vowels while reading old words and learning new words, such as 'saurians' and 'snakes' having long 'a' sounds while 'cat' has a short 'a' sound. He read about four pages aloud. He read nearly two paragraphs without needing a break. He also followed along while I read. I also reviewed a few ELA testing strategies with him."
"Today the student and I worked on planning his science fair write up. We discussed research ethics, making hypotheses, writing surveys, creating graphs, and research privacy. We read a text about his topic, super tasters, and made a list of questions. We discussed the difference between independent and dependent variables, as well as the concept of a testable question. He is very engaged by science and clearly has a sharp attention to detail in this topic area!"
