Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for his exam on parabolas on Tuesday. We specifically reviewed these aspects of parabolas: vertex, domain, range, maximum, minimum, zeroes, and y-intercepts. He was very confident in his understanding of the material. I recommended that he independently review the material several times before his next exam."
"The student and I had a great session. He wanted help on several of the problems that he had on the practice test to prepare for his exam. We worked through several problems, and he made big improvements! He also said that he had a math quiz yesterday, and feels like he did exceptionally well on it. He seems very confident in his math skills, and is keeping up with the work well!"
"The student and I completed her math homework and some math concepts for this session. Her homework assignment was on radicals: adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and simplifying them. Once she understood the foundation for how radicals work, she had a much better understanding of the homework. She is very bright and pays attention, and asks for extra practice if she wants to confirm that she understands something. We also went over scientific notation."
"We covered rates of change and interpreting graphs of distance vs time and speed vs time. The student was having the most trouble visualizing what would happen at each point in time based on the value and slope of the graph. He had a good attitude and was very willing to learn. We made a flowchart for interpreting graphs of both speed and distance vs time. The chart taught him to mark points of interest on the graph and then interpret what is happening at that specific point, then lay it all out chronologically for his final answer."
"The student and I discussed and practiced different types of word problems he would encounter on his upcoming test using the practice packet his teacher provided him as well as other online resources I brought for him. We mainly practiced consecutive number word problems, perimeter word problems and coin word problems. He was struggling a little bit with the perimeter word problems at the beginning but comprehended them very well by the end of our session. He seems confident in his abilities and I think as long as he keeps up what he has been doing he will do very well in this class. He hasn't gotten any tests back recently, but he has told me he thinks he did very well on them."
"Today, the student and I mainly focused on completing the square, which he had learned at school earlier today. He had a homework assignment covering this topic, so we began by reviewing his class notes. After we went over the notes step by step, he attempted some problems. At first, he wanted to rush through the problems, so he kept making minor errors. I advised him to slow down and make sure he understood each step. Finally, after trying many problems on his own, he seemed to have gotten the hang of the process."
