Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has been out of school for two days with some illness but she was really upbeat at the start of the session. We reviewed some of her recent awards (for reading improvement) and reviewed Roman numerals. I even taught her the first five numbers in Japanese. We finished looking at inequalities in word problem form."
"In this session, the student and I started to review for his final exam. We specifically covered similar figures, ratios, proportions, and surface area problems. He wanted to make sure we talked about similar figures because it was material we haven't covered together before. We worked through all the relative examples on the provided review packet. He did well with simplifying ratios and determining sides of separate similar shapes. We spent more time with shapes with inscribed figures. We also reviewed surface area calculations. This is more recent material, and he did very well with solving the exercises."
"In this session, we reviewed a quiz the student took earlier this year. He has the opportunity to make up the exam, so we covered writing the equations of a line, equations of parallel lines, and writing equations in point slope form, which will be on the exam. He understood how parallel lines have the same slope but different y-intercepts. He will retake his exam tomorrow, and Saturday, we will continue with his final exam review."
"We covered polar coordinates and conversions between rectangular and polar. The student's biggest struggle was graphing polar equations. Once we went over a few, she was fine. She felt great about the material. We went over her whole packet, and she understood the material. We also went over a pretty slick way of graphing high frequency polar coordinates. We went over a few examples to help. We went over every type of problem. She has been doing very well with her material."
"We primarily went over systems of equations again and how to manipulate a pair of equations to find the intercept of a pair of lines."
"During our session today we prepped for the student's Math final. He had a series of worksheets covering all of the material from the semester. He did well overall, but had some trouble with exponent rules. We spent a bit of extra time on exponents, then closed out the lesson with a bit of science review."
