Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we kept working on the practice exam. We spent a good amount of time on composite functions, and I think we are at a pretty good place with those now; we'll definitely review them a couple times in the future. I'm looking forward to finishing this practice test in the next session!"
"The student and I had a great final session. We reviewed concepts that will appear on his final exam, including quadratic functions and floor and ceiling functions. We graphed functions and looked at domain and range for each of them and other relevant data. He did well with the concepts and seems to grasp them well. It's been a pleasure working with him this school year, and I wish him all the best going forward."
"We worked on Unit 2 to prepare for his final. This unit was about different types of numbers, Pythagorean theorem, distance formula, and basic algebra. We also worked on unit 3, which was about points, lines, segments, bisectors, and vertex."
"Today we covered more of his homework problems to get him prepared for his final next week. We worked on problems that dealt with the unit circle and trigonometric functions. We also talked about amplitude, periods, and phase shifts of trigonometric functions. We have another session scheduled for tomorrow to start going over some of his quizzes for his exam."
"The student and I moved on to our next chapter, which is all about functions. He reported that he received a high "C" on his chapter four test, and was very pleased with this score. To start the session, I basically lectured him, giving him all of the basic features of a function. I used a metaphor to describe that a function is basically like a machine, which he found very helpful. We looked at using function maps, tables, coordinate points, and graphs, and how to use them to determine if a given relation is a function or not. He seemed to pick up the basic idea very quickly. We then moved on to the vertical line test, which I was able to combine with the machine metaphor, and he also understood this completely. We ended up covering two sections and also finished all of the work for these chapters. He will be taking a quiz over these sections later today."
"We're now in the final push for the student's upcoming final on June 7. We reviewed 2 entire practice tests, along with worksheets that I provided. Most of today's material covered ratio problems, along with problems involving conversions of distance, time, and weight."
