"Covered format of test (grading, duration, etc.), test-taking strategy. Introduced math section and covered Math fundamentals, plugging in your own number and plugging in the answers."
"We went through several math sections, practiced vocabulary in context, and brainstormed responses to several essay questions."
"The student and I spent the majority of our time on two types of questions: logic and the factoring quadratic equations. While watching him work, it seemed clear to me that he was far more comfortably thinking about questions as verbal ideas than picturing problems visually. At times I would draw a chart of all the necessary steps to solve a problem and then encourage him to copy it step by step. Ultimately, for the student to make the greatest strides forward, we will need to find ways to help him memorize the steps necessary for certain types of problem solving, whether by drilling, visual cues, mnemonic devices, or anything else that might help. He just needs to get to a place where he can trust that any given problem on the test is just like all the others and that he has the right mental tools to solve it."
