Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"A great session. We started by talking about the recitation, which happened today, and on which she earned a 95! Also, she earned a 100 on her commentary, which was a dry run for her major commentary due next week at the end of the course. We spent most of the time reviewing the 100 lines that will be on the test tomorrow, and we talked about the requirements for parsing words and practiced a number of them in all parts of speech. We finished by going over the global thematic movements of the different episodes represented this week, which focused mainly on fathers and sons, with the successful survival and raising of a good son being necessary for the future health of the race of Trojans/Romans."
"At the beginning of our session, the student and I discussed strategies for when he is taking the different types of quizzes and exams his teacher gives for French. First, we discussed writing sentences/paragraphs on the exam, and how to use the French he has learned. We talked about him walking through what he has learned when he is stuck on a question, as well as working on improving when it comes to second guessing himself. Lastly, we discussed multiple choice language questions and how to get through them. After discussing strategies, we reviewed sentences he had written in class the week before, and corrected grammar errors. He brought a list of verbs that his teacher wanted them to know, so we went through most of them. He is responsible for finishing flashcards for that list of verbs, as well as making purple flashcards for the verbs that use etre as the auxiliary. Before I left, we went through some sections and read through them---we worked on how to connect passages when you don't know all of the vocabulary, and using cognates to understand context. He is making great progress."
"This was our last lesson. We reviewed all the materials we previously covered. She has made tremendous progress and she is ready to go out and speak French! I am a little sad because we developed a great relationship, she was a great student and I hope she will keep practicing and speaking in French. I told her to not hesitate to contact me in the meantime if she has questions because I love to follow up with my students and make sure that they keep up the good work. Great student! I will miss her."
