Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over test. We've been using a quiz study guide to study vocab, but I'm going to look into other materials as well. We went over the next section of his assigned reading for class in preparation for the discussion on Friday. He recognized a lot more words than normal. I'm going to send him recorded portions of the reading to help with his pronunciation and vocabulary. We discussed ideas for his final project."
"We finished the final project and went through all the new vocabularies and phrases involved in the project. Compared to last time, her pronunciations are more accurate and clear. This session also shows her slight weakness on flat tone (first tone) in Chinese, so we did exercises for the tone by making up words related to that tone. Student will be receiving additional slides to practice unfamiliar vocabularies and sentences that we will go over in the next session. For the upcoming sessions, we will go over the basic SAT II requirements for her test in September."
"We did a final review for the students final. She still struggles with vocabulary, though she has been practicing. Better results with grammar and translation. We also went over exercises for the writing portion."
"In today's session, we did a quick review of the characters and words that were covered before. Today we also learned nationality. We talked about some country names and how to ask other people's nationality."
"I helped the student get ready for his quiz tomorrow. Our session included reviewing the lessons from class and writing the characters from those lessons. I showed the student the order of writing the strokes and he followed along on his paper as I showed him how to write each character. Great session!"
"Today, I helped the student to learn her new set of vocab for the week. We first read through her "culture" book article. I helped her understand the content, and then I asked her some questions after the reading. We then made flashcards of the new vocab, and I asked her to make sentences for each vocab word so she could remember them better and know how to use them. Then, I kept testing her back and forth with each word to reaffirm her memory."
