Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by reviewing several issues in the chapter on "variables in the choice" (general variable-form word problems, c.19). The last several questions are a bit difficult, so we worked through them together. After that, we worked on mean/median/mode questions and data interpretation problems. I assigned both of these chapters (21 and 24) as well as more sentence equivalence questions."
"We covered basic GRE test strategy, Text Completion, Reading Comprehension, and Exponent problems. I asked the student to do 45 minutes of Text Completion or Quantitative flashcards a day in preparation for her September 27 GRE exam and for the next time that we meet, the following Saturday."
"We discussed two writing samples that the student had prepared. Stressed the importance of using examples and decided that he has to write faster to save more time for editing. Will practice writing to edit at end rather than while writing. Spent 2nd hour on vocabulary."
"We went over text completion questions today. Then we spent time on short passages. We reviewed several techniques for tackling these types of problems. We used the practice tests from online via a shared screen."
"Today we covered a number of general assessment topics including timing, testing strategy and overall scheduling. We then began work on a number of quantitative comparisons, working through graphing, y and x intercepts, and data comparison questions. We will also be focusing on timing and testing throughout our sessions. We decided together upon a number of exercises for the next week including a verbal section, more graphing practice, and math practice set 5 from the prep book."
"The student and I reviewed an entire section from his GRE quant book. The questions in this section were much harder than the last sections we worked through. He picked up a few concepts that will help him on the exam. Most importantly, he should focus on making sure that he stamps out as many of the arithmetic errors as possible, which are still a problem despite the use of a calculator. Next session we will continue to focus on problem solving."
