Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered a wide range of topics for her math final, and addressed the problems that were more difficult for her. She understood the material and should do well on her exam."
"The student and I met to begin review for his math and chemistry finals. We went through his review packet, working out one problem from each section to see where he needed reinforcement. For the most part, he knew what to do and seldom needed assistance."
"Today, the student and I reviewed for his test that he has tomorrow. We went over composition of functions, determining domain and range of functions, finding inverses of functions, determining if two functions are inverses of each other, sketching the graph of piecewise functions, sketching graphs of functions with translations, and identifying if a graph is a function or has an inverse. We did several examples of each type of problem. He definitely seemed to have a good understanding of the material. He was able to recall several of the concepts from his class, such as the vertical line test for checking if a graph is a function, or the horizontal line test for checking if a graph has an inverse. He has his test on this material tomorrow, and then he has his finals next week. Thus, we will likely meet this weekend to prepare for his final exam."
"The student has a biology final coming up. We went over her review assignment, which was an old state assessment. We went over types of questions they ask and what to expect from the state assessment. She also did her algebra homework. It focused on equivalent equations. It really required her knowing how to solve an equation backwards and forwards. She had hardly any trouble with it."
"We worked through stretching and shrinking, which we didn't get to in the last session. The girls had a lot of questions about the surface area and volume of cylinders and pyramids and asked if we could go over that today, so we worked on that. We will go through comparing and scaling and expressions and equations in our next session on Sunday. The girls have a solid grasp on stretching and shrinking and just need to be sure that they are specific in their answers. They have a very good understanding of the concepts. They also need to work on memorizing the formulas for surface area and volume of all shapes before the final, because they will not be provided for them."
"Today, the student and I worked on solving exponential and logarithmic equations, composition of function with functions and graphs, half life, and compounded continuously interest. We also worked on finding inverse functions. She had a positive attitude."
