Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's entire final review packet, which covered everything from this semester. We spent a large amount of time going over circles, as that was the exam that she had the hardest time with. We went back through all the different formulas and the logic we can use when approaching a circle problem. We also reviewed triangle rules/trigonometry, volumes of prisms/cones/pyramids, and using similar triangles to find unknown side lengths or angles. We covered a lot of material in this session to make sure she has all the various formulas fresh in her head for her exam."
"In this lesson we went over everything that the student learned from pre-algebra. I gave him practice problems and he worked through them. For most of the concepts, he needed a little bit of prompting before he remembered how to do the problem. He still understood how to solve the problems, but he had forgotten the details. Overall, he did very well and was very focused for most of the lesson."
"Last night, the student completed the extra credit assignment. After he completed the extra credit, I had him look at some other assignments to make sure they were complete. Then, we did a section in the reading comprehension book, grammar, and vocabulary. I think these books are helping him firm up some more basic concepts in each of the subjects. I encourage him to continue to work through the books over the summer."
"Today I helped the student review for her chapter 12 test. We did review of isometries such as reflections, rotations and translations. She recalled many of the concepts from when I had originally taught them to her, so the review process went very well."
"The student and I worked on some multiplication and subtraction problems today. I also introduced her to some basic algebra where she had to either add or subtract to find the value of 'x.' She seems to be catching on very well, but we will continue to go over it over the summer. I also have some reading comprehension homework for her to do for our next session; I instructed her to read the questions prior to reading the story so that she will have an understanding of what she should be looking for throughout the reading. I also asked her to either highlight or underline anything she thinks is relevant to answering each question. We will go over the reading assignment during our next session."
"Today we worked through compound event probability problems. The student is really understanding this concept and we were able to finish his entire worksheet and also do two extra sets of practice problems. I am really excited for the way he is finishing up his year, and wish him well on his finals!"
