Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's previous final, how he thought he did and all that. We also covered new properties of circles, specifically congruent line segments of tangent lines that intersect at a point outside the circle. We mainly focused on working on his algebra skills, as his geometry has drastically improved but with the upcoming subject matter of this semester (areas, volumes, Pythagorean theorem). I believe equation manipulation will be paramount to his success. I gave him some more algebra homework after we used practice test problems as a learning tool for much of the session."
"We covered simplifying, multiplying, and dividing radicals. I pre-assessed the student by asking her to tell me which subtopic she struggled with the most; the topic was simplifying. I then modeled 3 ways to approach simplifying, and she was able to complete over 20 simplifying problems during the session. She also demonstrated mastery in multiplying and dividing."
"During this session, we covered specifics on Trigonometry, including: -Sine, cosine, and tangent and the basic definitions; -Test strategies on when to skip problems; -Test tips on taking time to recheck the simple answer; -How trigonometry only works on right triangles; and -SOH CAH TOA acronym for memory of the trig functions."
"We discussed similar figures, angle bisector theorem, and calculating perimeter and area of similar figures given the scale factor. This was all to study for tomorrow's chapter 8 exam."
"We practiced law of sine, law of cosine, and trig functions in preparation for the student's test tomorrow. She has a very firm grasp of the material and knows how to apply the principles to problems. As long as she takes her time and checks her work, she should do well on the test."
"Defined vector. Evaluated vectors by components and by magnitude and direction. Added vectors. Used SOHCAHTOA trig functions to find missing triangle measures. Solved word problems by adding vectors."
