Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished up his review book, and we went back through some of the earlier lessons to confirm his understanding of the topics (e.g., fractions, decimals, order of operations, basic geometry, etc.). Overall, he did very well, and his mathematics skills have improved. I think he will be well poised to do well in his Algebra I class, and I'm looking forward to working with him further."
"The student and I continued to work with log functions (graphing, solving for variables, creating tables). We finished one homework assignment and began on a new one that was centered around compounding interest formulas."
"The student and I worked on estimation. She did a great job with the worksheet and did not seem to have any problems with this concept. We also reviewed her 6 multiplication tables and started working on the 7s."
"The student has done well on his last couple of quizzes at school. He is still interested in getting into the advanced pre-algebra class as well. Tonight we went over his homework involving plotting points on a coordinate grid and identifying the specific quadrant or axis where a point is found. He was able to complete his homework with 100% accuracy. After completing and reviewing his homework, we worked on an educational tool and app, to help him review pre-algebra topics that he wanted to increase both his accuracy and speed on such as number theory, problem solving and estimation, transformations, coordinate graphs, and variable expressions. He did well on each topic."
"The student worked problems involving solving a system of equations by using the substitution method. She then also worked some word problems involving substitution method."
"Today the student and I worked on solving squares and squares roots by using Pythagorean Theorem. We worked through his homework assignment. After completing the homework we focused on the material that he was going to be quizzed on, which was identifying irrational and rational numbers. We had a good productive session!"
"We covered Sets and Spaces at our session today. We focused mainly on defining what exists in a space and what doesn't, and ways of proving additive closed sets and scalar closed sets. I did some extra practice with him in the session."
"The student is preparing for an upcoming exam. She has a fairly good understanding of the concepts. She needs more practice with the integration techniques before it becomes familiar enough to her to be able to complete her exam. She is going to continue to work on her practice exam questions."
"Today, I worked with the student for the entire 90 minutes. We spent most of the time working on greater than/less than equations with one variable. We reviewed both of those concepts a lot - simple practice in the beginning, and continued to practice it with the equations. She also worked on her homework - identifying prime and composite numbers and creating factor trees."
"The student and I had a great first session today, as we went over a cumulative review of graphing trigonometric functions. This included finding the amplitude, vertical shift and stretch, and period changes, as well as phase shifts and horizontal stretch for not only sine and cosine, but tangent/cotangent and secant/cosecant. With time and patience, she was able to move through all of the problems assigned to review for her quiz/test tomorrow, and I have full confidence that she will do well on it."
"We previewed linear equations, specifically how to find the slope. The student did well with remembering the slope is rise/run. Overall, the session went well, and she'll be ahead of her class."
