"The student spelled some great words and I was impressed with how she took initiative to try to figure out how many of her words were spelled -- only asking me a few times. This was an improvement from last week. We worked as a team on some of the words, and I was happy to see her spelling most of the words correctly on the first or second try. We then tried out a word search. We worked together to figure out what the words in the puzzle meant, and where they were in the word scramble. She liked this and was starting to do well. We will continue with this in our next session."
"The student and I worked on reading activities related to Greek mythology this session. She has a strong interest in Greek mythology, specifically Zeus, so she was eager to begin. We read about a historical statue of Zeus that burned down and did further research to learn more about it. This activity asked her to draw a picture of a statue she would design and write an inscription. Afterwards, we read through a play with Greek mythology characters. She loved this, eventually taking over the voicing of all the characters. The play was entertaining and also informational. We discussed what we learned and the moral of the story afterwards. Her attention and motivation was greatly improved this session."
"The student had a really productive session - we used RACE to go through all different types of reading comprehension practice exercises (a poem, article, story, and essay), and she really did well with all of the above. She still has a tendency to rush through things and I encouraged her to really use the cite and explain steps to go back and make sure that her answers are correct, but overall I was very pleased with how she did with those exercises."
