Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we did all of the student's homework, science, history, English, French and Math. We also reviewed his Midterm and the mistakes that he made on it. We reviewed the concepts again and I will quiz him on them in the future so that he doesn't forget them!"
"Wonderful improvement this week. The student's long tones are lengthening, up to six beats now. Recognition of notes is becoming quicker, and the accompanying fingerings is coming right along as well. We worked on major scales, F and G, and some tonguing exercises as well. She is further along in her band book than other students. I am going to have to start finding more music that will challenge her! She seems to have some natural talents, as she is progressing quicker than any student I've known to date."
"The student and I spent half an hour on her Physics, working on free-body diagrams and weight, half an hour on graphing logarithmic functions for her PreCal class, and finally worked on starting her thesis for her English research paper."
"AP Chemistry tutoring. We went over topics for his wavelength, light, and energy. Also discussed Einstein's photoelectric effect in depth in addition to testing him on equations he will need to memorize for tomorrow."
"Forming the passive perfect system. Translation quiz on key verbs (Latin to English). The present active participle, all conjugations. 1st/2nd and 3rd declension noun and adjective endings and practice. The student was focused and on point. He is definitely improving! I was very encouraged by how well he trusted his instincts from Latin to English verb translation."
"The student and I reviewed the topics that her class has learned thus far this semester: a reminder (from last year) of exponent rules, solving equations with radicals, asymptotes, and graphing transformations, as well as new material regarding exponential functions. We worked through example problems from all of these."
"The student and I continued working through her book, first reviewing her current homework and then looking ahead as much as possible. She continues to do well with the concepts, but is still improving with multi-step problems. She has agreed to work on memorizing the common integrals and derivatives to help speed up her processing time on each question."
"We worked on projectile motion-setting up problems, deciding which formulas to use and setting up the problems correctly. We worked on homework problems as well as some problems given to the student by her teacher."
"We went over the online practice questions the student had done the week before. We then discussed probability, combinations, and permutations. I went over the different types of questions that could be asked for these topics and also how to approach those questions. We worked on some practice questions together and she also did a few independently with occasional help/comments from me."
"Spent this lesson trying to catch back up, still not fully there but made good progress. Moved forward on previous homework, and learned about the relationships between areas and sides and scale factors. it proved difficult early to get the student going because he was mentally preoccupied with the thought of upcoming work, which is an important obstacle of a mindset we will continue to address."
"We reviewed the student's test review packet and worked through all problems (except the first page). She has improved. We focused on "fixing her gut" by memorizing the rules with exponents and order of operations. She was provided with a cheat sheet with all the rules for exponents and was asked to write them down 3 times in a way that will help her understand. We also reviewed Distance= (rate)x(time) for her test."
"The student and I mainly focused on organizing her history paper which is due Friday. We had talked about it before a little, but she must now finish up the research and write it so that we can both edit it in the Thursday session. At the end we also went over getting her organized for finals - specifically planning out some of the studying as she continues to get more info on what will be on each exam. I also went over the strategies we have been going over all semester and we explored a few new ones as she is preparing to take finals for the first time ever."
