Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was my first session with this student . We worked on her Geometry homework focusing on probability. We did probability with area, distance, and time. She understood the main concepts and needed a little clarification at times but was able to work through the problems. Continuing to practice will build fluency and confidence. Some of the trickier problems involved translating information into drawings and using special right triangles to solve for lengths and area. We completed the worksheet and did a sample of problems from her text book homework. She will need to finish the rest of the problems on her own but said that she felt pretty comfortable setting up the problems."
"The student has increased his math grade from a low 30% to a 68%, and his teacher has noted the change in his effort. This week he had several online homework modules to complete concerning reflections, rotations, and translations of shapes. He did a great job on the homework. His only struggle was plotting lines on the graph around which he needed to plot reflections. During the next section we will review plotting functions."
"The student is using the prep book in class to work on congruent triangles, similar triangles, and working with circles. The student quickly picked up the concepts for triangles and worked quickly through the assignment. We worked ahead on the circle concepts to ensure the student understood what the concepts were and how to solve the problems. The student was able to quickly pick up on circles and able to complete the work a day ahead without any issues."
"The student and I had our final session before his midterm. I quizzed him on quadrilateral properties and we did some practice problems on coordinate proofs, plotting quadrilaterals, and finding triangle vertices from their midpoints. He did pretty well with everything and I am confident that he will do fairly well on his midterm. He knows all of the information, it is just a matter of being careful and executing on the test. It has been great working with him this semester, and I have definitely seen his knowledge base and confidence go up!"
"The student and I reviewed for his Algebra 2 exam today, going over exponent properties, factoring, graph transformations, function composition, inverse functions, symmetry, piecewise functions, and radical equations. Throughout the lengthy review, he seemed to remember most of the material, and he very quickly picked back up on the things he didn't remember."
"Today, the student brought some classwork to the session. Like the last session, we continued working on parallel lines and transversals. Before the session, I asked him how comfortable he was with the section, and he was not totally confident. We worked on identifying and describing pairs of angles and finding missing values. At the end of the session, I asked him how comfortable he was with the section, and he said he was confident. To make sure he was able to answer the questions without my help and confidently, I had him answer some questions completely on his own. He answered all of the questions correctly, which is a good sign to me. I am confident that the student will receive an A on the exam for this chapter."
