Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went through some of his geometry review. We worked through probably the first half of the semesters worth of material. We'll keep working through his review to get him prepped for the final."
"Today we did a review for the student's test tomorrow on area of circles and volume of spheres, cones, cylinders, and pyramids. We first did problems concerning circumference and arc length. Then we reviewed how to calculate the area of circles and slices of circles. Then we reviewed how to convert between degrees and radians. Finally we reviewed volume for spheres, then cylinders, then the similar solids: pyramids and cones. We did a review of how to calculate area for the pyramid bases including triangles."
"I went over the fundamentals of circles in preparation for the student's exam tomorrow. I feel that she has improved since our last session! I will continue to work with her with a focus of test taking strategies."
"Checked in on how today's science exam went. The student seemed confident about how he did. Reviewed vocabulary from Chapter 4 in preparation for tomorrow's exam. Focused on three specific proofs to test knowledge of theorems. Worked on correcting questions from last test to review previous theorems. Looked at explanations for difficult questions on Chapter 4 review. Left him with checklist of things to do before tomorrow's test. He seems confident for the test."
"The student and I reviewed some of her test questions, and for most of them she had the correct answer. We started discussing a new section that was relatively simple compared to some of the other material--she caught on fast. She has an upcoming Spanish test, so we reviewed vocab. As a study strategy, I suggested memorizing the order of morning ritual vocab and night ritual vocab to not mix the words up."
"Today's session went really well. We worked on his homework, helped him study for his exam tomorrow and after he knew everything he needed to, we did a little work on Chapter 4 in his book. He is doing much better."
"This session was my first session working with the student. He was doing fine in geometry class. We worked on his chapter 4 review work, covering proofs over parallel lines and figuring out the measurements of angles and segments of shapes, and some graphing. He understood the materials well and what he was struggling with we worked together on and I showed him how to find the answers and setup the problems."
"We covered topics in ch 4 that will be tested this Friday. The majority of the time was focused specifically on proving two triangles congruent. The student is in a good position to do well on the test. He has a very good understanding of most of the concepts, and just needs more practice on proofs. I gave him some strategies to help with proofs."
"We finished reviewing the content of chapter 1 in the student's textbook. After we finished taking notes, we reviewed her Chapter 1 quiz from class. I left her with homework--fixing the problems she initially got incorrect on her chapter 1 test from school."
"Met with the student and continued to work on Geometry problems involving circles, arc lengths, and the Pythagorean theorem. We also reviewed how to calculate the degrees of an arc length's angle, as well as the surface area of a particular arc length. The student was able to complete each problem, regardless of difficulty, with guidance, and also independently. The session went very well and the student reported continued improvement in math class over the topics we reviewed during the session."
"The student and I worked through his geometric proofs homework. The problems focused on solutions utilizing the perpendicular bisector theorem. The student brought up many good questions, and we solved two problems using two different methods to look at the difference between using the perpendicular bisector theorem and other longer methods."
"For this session, the student and I focused on practicing problems focusing on postulate proofs of triangles, namely SSS, ASA, SAS, and AAS. The student had a little trouble understanding the proofs at first, however, with more practice he got a firm grasp on them."
