Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on spans, linear dependence and independence, transformations, and linear transformations. We talked through the concepts and went through an example or two on each topic. The student seemed comfortable with most of the material. We will be picking up with linear transformations again next weekend."
"We covered solving for the surface area of rectangular prisms and spheres. The student previously did not have the surface area equations memorized, so for every problem I had him write the equation. He became very comfortable with both equations and writing the units for each scenario."
"The student and I worked on linear functions, how to graph them, how to translate them into different forms, elimination and substitution problems, and word problems. He understands most, if not all, of the major concepts as well as the central equations related to those concepts. We worked on having him slow down and only do one step per line, i.e. writing the general equation first, then substituting the variables, then doing one isolation of a variable, then doing PEMDAS to solve for the given variable. We took some time to work with some difficult word problems and I helped him with the process of translating a word problem into equations. He is showing lots of promise and I believe with continued support and help he will be able to apply his knowledge more successfully."
"We went over new material for an upcoming quiz. She said that there were some things she wanted to review about series/ sequences next time. We covered arithmetic with complex numbers, factoring quadratic equations, and using the quadratic formula. Besides some shortcuts and using the complex conjugate, she was comfortable with the material, and she quickly was able to apply the concepts that I explained to her."
"The student and I covered translating word problems on perimeter and areas of squares and rectangles into algebraic expressions and equations, then solving them. I also guided him in doing two review packets based on those concepts."
"In preparation for SAT, we went over the remaining selected exercises in geometry, statistics, probability, systems of equations, and factoring. Then we tackled one full test and started on the second one. The student is making a steady progress and will go over all the studied materials on his own over the next couple of days."
